On 25 January, 2018 “Andros Maritime Association” held its inaugural event at the premises of the Yacht Club of Greece in order to officially present the social aspect of the Association and make public its goals and mission.

 

More than 200 distinguished guests from the Andriot shipping community attended together with other invited members of the public.  Amongst other attendees the following honored the event; Mr Ioannis Maritsas representing the Minister of Maritime Affairs, Rear Admiral Panagiotis Paraskevas and Vice Admiral (HCG) Stamatis Kalogeiton representing the Hellenic Coast Guard, Dr. Georgios Pateras (President of the Hellenic Chamber of Shipping), Mr Konstantinos Vasiliadis (President of Chios Maritime Club), Mrs. K. Monogiou, Candidate parliament member of Cyclades , M. Papageorgiou, Alpha Bank, Head of Aegean Islands and Crete Region.

 

 

The President of Remi Maritime Corporation Mr Spyros M. Polemis gave a speech on the subject of ‘Looking Back at the Shipping History of Andros”.

The President of the Association Mr Makis M. Kourtesis spoke about the goals and objectives of the Associations.

The former President of the Association, Mr Leonidas  S. Polemis gave a greeting speech.

An address to the members of the Association by the Mayor of Andros Mr. Theodosis Sousoudis was relayed to the participants as he could not attend in person given the ban on the sea transport due to severe weather conditions on 25 January 2018.

 

The Senior Claims Executive from the Gard P&I Mr Dimitris Giginis, member of the Board of the Association, spoke about the Cyber Attack risks in shipping.

 

Mrs Maria Kiratsoudi, representing the Lloyds Register, presented the latest developments on the MARPOL requirements (MARPOL being the international treaty on the safeguarding against pollution from ships), the Sulphur content in bunkers less than 0.50%, which will come into force from 01.01.2020.

 

The event was sponsored by the Lloyds Classification Society and the Oceanic Catering company.

 

Oceanic Catering representative, Mr Georgios Skellas, delivered a short speech.

 

The event’s panel was coordinated by Mrs Marianna Fotopoulou-Margeti of the “Andriaki/andriakipress.gr” newspaper.

 

After the speeches, the guests enjoyed the unique night view of the Saronic Bay attending a cocktail party.

This was the materialization of one of the event’s goals, namely to get to know each other better.
